The geographical isolation of Sfakia played a crucial role in maintaining old customs that had already faded in other parts of Crete. In joyful, festive bridal lines, I once would walk with pride, in younger days that now have passed, with dear friends by my side. So beautiful, so full of grace—that wedding march on foot, a scene today’s young eyes, alas, may never more salute.
